Yahoo! News featured a story of an Indian monk who claims to have survived without food and water for 70 years. His secret: Meditation and mysterious water coming from a hole in his palate. The reporter noted that the holy man looked very thin. The Indian Military is now studying the man to know if the story is true and if it is, to determine the source of his amazing survival power. They admitted that they don’t think that their soldiers can survive on meditation alone.

My reaction to the story:

  1. I’m not sure if the reporter was just trying to be funny about the monk being very thin. Seriously, what do you expect from someone who hasn’t eaten for 70 years?! Come on Yahoo! Editors, you can do better than stating the obvious.
  2. The Indian military is putting a lot of effort and money to know if the story is true or not. They’re doing this even though they know that they won’t be able to apply the knowledge to their troops. What a waste of money just to satisfy a curiousity.

Sunset last 27 April 2010 as seen from our building.

After a week battling a sleeping disorder, I was finally able to sleep for more than 5 hours. Friday night until 7am Saturday I was sleeping on and off. By 8am I was totally exhausted. As a last resort I grabbed my Motorola Milestone, plugged in my headset and played my all time favorite album,James Taylor’s Greatest Hits.
After 5 songs I was out. Good ol’ James never fails.

On our way down the British Council after a great first day at our technical writing workshop, we saw that the sky was dark and hinting on some major rain. It was an awesome view that I had to capture it. Good thing my Motorola Milestone has a 5MP camera that I used to record this rare scene.

I was wondering what to do with all the excess chopsticks and rubberbands that came from lunch packets I bought. This is what I came up with—a glass-pyramid sculpture/mixed-media installation.

The pyramid is made of bamboo chopsticks tied with red rubberbands. The whole pyramid is suspended over a mcdonald’s coke freebie glass.

What can I build next?

It’s one of those days again. I woke up hours before my alarm clock rang. What would you do? For me, I reached for my Motorola Milestone and checked my emails, personal and office mail at 4AM. This has got to change. Sleeping late and waking up early is not a good combination.  I feel my diet and weightloss efforts are getting affected.
I think I should consider those valium pills again. Maybe.

Good things come to those who wait.

I was really tempted to get an iPhone simply because everyone had one, well almost everyone. But, I decided to wait. My wife was also planning to buy a new phone because her old one was already getting old and tired. I suggested to her to get an iPhone because that’s what every one is using. She didn’t like the idea of having a phone everyone else have (who does?), so I suggested to her the phone that I was planning to buy if I had the money: The Motorola Milestone (or Motorola DROID in the US). She liked how it looked (and fortunately it was on an exclusive promo with Starhub).

We went to the Starhub shop in Ang Mo Kio to check it and luckily there was a live unit there that you can play with. All I can say is, it was lust at first touch. We were awed by how responsive it was like the iPhone, how good the screen is, and how nice the slideout keyboard was. By the way did I say it was affordable? Only 198sgd with a 38sgd/mo subscription that includes a 12gb data plan just like the iPhone!
So I suggested that she gets it, but to my surprise she bought me one too. The condition was I have to sell my trusty Nokia E71, which I gladly agreed to (sorry E71, the call of a useful touch with a big slideout keyboard was too strong).

So far everthing is going great! Though it’s not a perfect phone (short battery life compared to my E71), it’s just right for my hands and needs.
I’ll be doing a running review of this smartphone so that you get an idea of how it really handles in the real world.

For those wanting and waiting for a very useful phone that isn’t an iPhone, the Motorola Milestone is here. The waiting is over.

Welcome to My Mobile Life.  This is my personal blog documenting my daily digital life. This is somewhat of a personal experiment: I’d like to try how it is to be constantly “connected”  and, at the same time, to share more of my less filtered thoughts.

This will be fun. :)
